Recently converted by local artisans, this listed stone barn has stood the test of time in this rugged landscape for centuries. Set between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, you'll be in the rural village of King's Meaburn, a twenty-minute drive from Penrith. An ideal retreat for lovers of fresh, country air (you can see the cows grazing from your dining table), it's a stylish and comfy place to come home to at the end of the day. Along with its twin next door, it's been lovingly transformed into a modern home – without losing its all-important character and cosy feel. Curl up on the sofas, in front of a roaring fire, or whip up dinner in the fully kitted-out kitchen. The living space has an open layout, to keep everything sociable, and you have a lovely terrace outside in the walled orchard garden – perfect for barbecues on fine days. From here you can see across the field for miles. It's just a five-minute walk from the village pub and you can walk straight down to the river from your door. Drive to Ullswater in around twenty minutes for some water sports, or to Appleby in a little over ten.

Local guide
About The Lake District
Poets and novelists have often escaped to the Lake District for a spot of inspiration. Famously, Wordsworth pondered about daffodils and clouds during his time here. The undulating hills are tracked with drystone walls while sheep graze, and farmsteads enjoy untouched beauty for miles around. England’s biggest lake, Windermere, cuts through a valley, sleek as glass and hosts a litany of cosy-pub-filled towns and water sports venues along its shores....
